January Guide: Nourishing Your Body and Mind

As the calendar turns to January, many of us find ourselves inspired to embark on a journey of renewal and rejuvenation. The start of the year serves as a compelling opportunity to reset and prioritize our wellbeing. In this article, we delve into the concept of a January detox, a holistic approach to nourishing both the body and mind.

“For most, New Year’s resolutions typically focus on self-improvement, whether it’s losing weight, exercising more, or learning a new skill or hobby. These resolutions can fill us with excitement in anticipation of the possibilities of achieving goals or weigh us down with dread and apprehension of not living up to our expectations [1] .”

The University Behavioral Center [2] , recommends to us a guide to crafting empowering change:

  • Embrace self-compassion
  • Set realistic goals
  • Prioritize mental health
  • Cultivate a support network
  • Mindful substance use or abstinence
  • Educate yourself
  • Practice gratitude
  • Celebrate progress, not perfection
  • Seek professional guidance
  • Stay mindful and present

Additionally, “Forbes reported that the top resolutions people make are improving mental health (45%), improving fitness (39%), losing weight (37%), improving diet (33%) and improving finances (30%). Whatever goal you choose, it ultimately plays a role in your mental wellness. Even if you decide not to make a resolution, that’s ok (and understandable), too [3] !”

Mental Health Foundation [4]  considers, “New Year self-improvement can be a positive thing with benefits for your mental and physical health. This year when thinking of self-improvement, find things that work for you, irrespective of what others are doing. And remember to ask for support if you need it. New Year’s resolutions can be fueled by unhelpful self-criticism.”

We hope that our short January guide has been a compass guiding us towards a renewed sense of wellbeing and vitality. As we explored nourishing recipes, embraced mindfulness practices, and made lifestyle adjustments, we embarked on a journey of self-care and balance.
