TikTok, the Platform that Talks About Mental Health among Black People
According to the American Psychological Association, only 4% of psychologist in the US are black, which reinforces the thesis of The Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health: this population is more likely to suffer from mental health problems, because they do not receive the necessary care like white Americans.
For this reason, under the hashtags #mentalhealth, #blacktherapist or #blackmentalhealth, people like Shahem Mclaurin have decided to talk about mental health among people of color through the TikTok platform.
“I am a Black, queer therapist, and I want to showcase myself being fully that,”
