Self-Love and Valentines

As Valentine’s Day approaches, hearts and roses flood our senses, reminding us of the love that surrounds us. But amidst the sea of red and pink, there is a deeper hue we often overlook: the color of self-love. This Valentine’s lets embark on a journey to celebrate the most enduring love affair of all, the one we have ourselves.

Well, self-love isn’t merely a fleeting indulgence. It’s a fundamental pillar of holistic wellbeing. When we prioritize nurturing a positive relationship with ourselves, we pave the way for resilience and contentment. Embracing self-compassion and acceptance allow us to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease, fostering a sense of inner peace that radiates into every facet of our existence. By acknowledging our worth and honoring our needs, we cultivate a profound sense of fulfillment that transcends external validations, empowering us to lead authentically fulfilling lives.

“I’ve found that when I feel good about myself, I am better able to connect with others and feel confident in social settings. Its kind of like my bank account: when I put money in, I feel desperate and anxious about getting more. When I treat myself, I feel I “need” a partner less[1] .”

How can you celebrate self-care and self-compassion on this Valentines[2] ?

  1. Focus on you
  2. Look for the good
  3. Catch up with an old friend or two
  4. Make plans
  5. Check out Headspace for mindfulness and meditation
  6. Give social media a rest
  7. Perform a random act of kindness
  8. Remember to seek support if you need it

According to VCUHealth[3] , “there is a large body of psychological research that shows self-compassion and self-love do have a strong impact on our mental health and our emotional state, both in terms of decreasing anxiety, depression, anger and loneliness and also increasing support and encouragement for ourselves.”

In closing, let us acknowledge that the path of self-love and wellbeing isn’t without its challenges, but it’s undoubtedly worth the journey. As you navigate the ebbs and flows of life, may you always remember that your worthiness knows no bounds. With self-compassion as your guiding light may you cultivate a profound sense of inner peace and authenticity to celebrate this year and always a lovely Valentines.
