Washington DC VA Medical Center, Committed to Mental Health

The stigma of mental health still persists, however, as stated by the Associate Chief of Staff of the Mental Health Service of Washington DC VA Medical Center, Dominique Neptune, M.D., it is vital to start building communication bridges as a society that allow people to express what they feel, now more than ever, because we are observing Mental Health Awareness Month.

The Veterans Administration offers support on different issues related to mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, PTSD, schizophrenia, tobacco, etc. In addition, they consider vital to be able to accompany the people who surround the veteran so that their mental health is always cared for by those closest to him/her, because that make them feel accompanied.

“It has such an impact on lives and on the community, yet it is something that people often bear the brunt of alone.”

Dominque Neptune, M.D.
