New Biden Regulations Mandate Parity in Mental Health Coverage

The Biden administration is set to enforce stricter rules for health insurers, mandating parity in coverage between mental health care and other medical services. The updated regulations, which respond to a lack of compliance with a 2008 law, could result in fines for violators and may face industry pushback.

Despite potential legal challenges, the administration remains confident in the legal basis of the rules. The changes, aiming to improve mental health care access for millions, will be phased in, with some measures taking effect by 2026.

“This final rule will stop the industry evasion that has led millions of people to pay for care even when they have insurance.”
