FDA Approval Boost J&J’s Spravato

The FDA has approved Johnson & Johnson’s Spravato (esketamine), the first standalone treatment for Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD). Unlike traditional antidepressants, the nasal spray acts on NMDA receptors, providing faster relief. Spravato’s sales soared by 60% in 2024. Earning $780 million as an adjunct therapy.

The approval marks a shift in mental health care, broadening access to effective treatments. J&J anticipates $1 billion in Spravato revenue for 2025, bolstered by increased investor interest and rising global mental health awareness. J&J shares rose 0.97%, reflecting optimism about its expanding impact.

“As the mental health crisis and awareness continues to grow globally, Spravato’s approval may help it to become a leader in the depression treatment.”
