D.C. Supports Struggling Creatives with Affordable Therapy program

The D.C. government and George Washington University have joined forces to support the city’s artists with affordable mental health services. The “Care for Creatives” program provides short-term, solution-oriented therapy tailored to the pressures of creative work, such as instability and anxiety.

Clients receive weekly counseling from trained interns, with sessions offered on a sliding scale starting at $5. The goal is to make mental health care accessible for those without insurance or steady income. Services are offered both in-person and via telehealth, with options to extend therapy beyond the initial six weeks.

“We recognize there’s a lot of anxiety, turmoil and financial anxiety right now.”
