Time is Never Recovered, Take Care of It.

There are many sayings about time: “Lost time does not come back”, “time is running out”, “the only sure thing is the present time”, among others, that show us the importance that we give to this measure in our lives. That is why we have to ask ourselves how we are organizing our time to have a better emotional wellbeing.

“The measurement of time began with the invention of sundials in ancient Egypt some time prior to 1500 B.C. However, the time the Egyptians measured was not the same as the time today’s clocks measure. During the middle Ages, the idea of a regulated time started to spread out from the monasteries along with the associated religious observances. Now, it was into a world of “natural time”, based on the sun’s march across the sky, and varying with the seasons, that the first mechanical timepieces were introduced in thirteenth century Europe [1] .”

However, what is time? According to Aristotle, time is the “calculable measure of motion with respect to before and afterness [2] ”. For the Merriam Webster Dictionary [3] , it’s “the measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exist or continues”. Cambridge Dictionary [4]  affirms that time is “the part of existence that is measured in minutes, days, years, etc., or this process considered as a whole”.

So, we need time to work, to eat, to sleep, and to accomplish all the daily chores of living, We also need time to know and understand our mates, our children, and our friends. Therefore, we must ask ourselves a question: Why time is important?

According to the portal The Scientific World [5] : “Time has great importance in human life. Time is related to all that is going on around us, so we often hear about the time dimension, because time is an essential element of life. Time represents special milestones, including birthdays, anniversaries and the birth of babies and helps us to organize our daily lives and activities, so we can live a more organized and productive life”.

For the Inside 5am Blog [6] , “time is an essential element of our very existence, other than air and water, which many people take for granted. Whether you like it or not, time will continue to flow forward without stopping. You will realize that without time we would not be able to do anything at all”. In addition, if we could enumerate the reasons why time is important, theimportantsite.com [7]  mentions:

  1. Everything is bound to time
  2. Time is the most precious resource because you can’t get it back
  3. Because of privileges, not everyone truly has the same amount of time in a day
  4. No one knows how much time they have
  5. The only time we actually have is the present
  6. How we see time impacts happiness
  7. Managing it poorly or well has a huge impact on life
  8. Relationships are made or broken by how much time you invest
  9. Skills are impacted by how much time you invest
  10. Time is a teacher and a healer

So, if this resource is so important, how do we make the most of our time? The Upside by Hill [8]  recommends: rethink our priorities, build de-stressing moments into our day, minimize “empty calories”, get more shut-eye, exercise daily, remember: all hours are not created equal, align our strengths with how we structure our day, say “no, but thank you for thinking of me”, press pause, stop chasing our tail and wasting time.

In conclusion, let us treasure time, let us create memories that can contribute to strengthening our emotional wellbeing, organize ourselves so that we can make the most of it and learn to respect and understand the time of others.
